The Readers' Choice

This week’s interviewee has been a FoLC for a long time, but only really became involved in commenting and chatting with writers with IRC and the message boards. She likes just about any kind of fic, and specialises in yelling at writers who dare to create evil cliffhangers. Oh, and she’s pretty cool, too. ;)

She is:

Karen, AKA BriGal

Whereabouts in the world are you?
North Carolina, USA

How long have you been a FoLC?
Since the Pilot

What drew you to Lois and Clark?
Interest in Superman

When did you first discover fanfic?
Season 3 (I think?)

What's the very first fanfic you read? Do you remember what your first thoughts were about the concept of fanfiction?
Can't remember. I remember reading Dawning and wanting to finish it, and had started compiling my own little archive.

What are your favourite sites for reading fanfic?
lcfanfic.com and zoomway.net/boards

List some stories you’d recommend to other readers.
Too many to list, if I could remember any off-hand

A new story goes up on the Archive or MBs. You drop everything - and we mean *everything* - to read it. So who would it be by? <g>
Wendy, Pam Jernigan, Zoomway, Nan, Yvonne, ML Thompson, Kathy Brown, Demi, Carol Malo, Irene Dutch... and that's the short list

What type of stories do you most enjoy reading, and why?
Next generation, because it shows the family dynamics; revelation stories, because it's fun to watch Lois react

What’s your opinion of:
Drama?
Nailbiting, if done right (in a good way)

Action?
Hard to imagine on paper/written word

Romance?
Great, if done right

Tearjerkers?
Depends on the kind, usually good

WAFFy vignettes?
short, sweet, and "awwwww". Great for quick I've-got-10-minutes-to-read sessions

Elseworlds?
Always interesting to see how things could be

Alternate Universe/Beginnings?
Again, always interesting to see how things could be. (Hint: I was a fan of Sliders when it was on. Parallel universes are fascinating)

Other (if we’ve failed to include your favourite type, here’s your chance to set the record straight <g>)?
Next gen, because I like to read about the kids, and "What happens next!!!!!"

Can you choose one, possibly two, stories you’d consider personal favourites, and tell us what you like about them?
Sorry, couldn't possibly choose. There's just too many good stories out there!

Has everything been done in L&C fanfic? Are there any unexplored scenarios? Or doesn’t it matter? <g>
There may not be any scenarios left unexplored...but it all comes down to *how* you explore it.

If you could be your favourite author’s personal Muse, what would your dream story premise be?
You mean I can't borrow their muse for awhile? Um.. probably just insert a small character into their heads, so I can be in the universe for awhile. Any story will do.

In your opinion, what makes for the best story? What ingredients, in your opinion, are essential to your favourite type of fanfic?
Laughter, suspense, not too much horror, a good villain (if it's that type of story), humor, tender moments.. did I mention humor?

Any other comments you’d like to make?
For all the writers, keep up the good work, and I'm insanely jealous? ;-)
