Lois and Clark or Superman Status

How long have you been watching L&C?
I watched the show sporadically when it was on its first time run and enjoyed it when I could squeeze it into usually hectic Sunday evenings. I lived out in the country in Minnesota before moving to Texas, and cable television was not available. It wasn't until my husband and I installed a satellite dish around a year ago that I was able to get the Lois & Clark reruns. I immediately began watching it in the mornings and was totally enthralled with the characters and the show.

How long have you been a fan of Superman?
Since watching Lois & Clark at the beginning of 2000

How long have you been writing?
I wrote very briefly in college many years back. The same month my family received satellite television, we also bought our first home computer. I never enjoyed writing long hand, so the computer opened up an avenue to allow me to write easily.

How long have you been writing L&C fanfic?
I started my first story in February of last year. I found Zoomway's boards and the archives, and after devouring as many stories as humanly possible, the writing bug hit me and I had to try my hand on my own story.

What types of Fanfic have you written?
My first story was a tiny vignette - I hesistate to say deathfic, because it (the death) happened naturally of old age. I found the idea for it when I received one of those annoying little emails, it was too sing song for my taste and I wanted to change the tone and add a little L & C. Lois and Clark were always so connected - I thought even beyond death they would anticipate what the other needed. My current series is an else world. I love the what-if scenerios that other authors have written and wanted to write my own.

Most recent story posted? Where?
Presently in the middle of Strangers II at Zoom's boards

Favorite story you have written? Why?
It's the one I'm currently working on. This has been stewing inside me for almost a year. I enjoy the else world universe the characters are set in, and the situations that develop.

Current project/projects?
Strangers II and possibly Strangers III if I decide to split the story up. Started a fic named, 'Soul Strings' that I will eventually get back to writing.

Personal picks of other Fanfics you have read?
Wendy Richard's, 'For The Greater Good', Chris Mulder's, 'Meet Me In Kansas City, Labrat's, 'Are You Lonesome Tonight" pop into my mind right away. These are just the tip of the iceburg, there are so many talented authors, and many ways to portray the characters - most of them are so unique and original. But if I have to name three stories I'd take to a deserted island, those three would be it.

General Interview Questions

What attracted you to writing Fanfic and what about it do you enjoy?
I love the interaction between the authors and the readers and the support system is wonderful. Of course, there is the immediate feedback when you post a section of your story....and the nagging to help you continue writing.

What about the L&C and the characters do you like the most?
The timeless romance. I'm such a softie for the kind of love that overcomes any and all obstacles that life and all these talented writers throw at them. Especially the characterization that the most powerful man in the world can be so vulnerable when it comes to his true love and soulmate. *And* that the combination of them together - *is* Superman.

How do you interpret them in your work?
I try to get inside their heads and imagine how they would react in certain situations.

How did you begin writing in general?
Just jumped right in without testing the water level first. Still feel like I'm barely trending, but at least my nose is sticking out of the water.

What are you working on now and where do you see it going?
I don't want to rush finishing the 'Strangers' series. There is much I've already written, future segments that need to be worked in. There is a plan, I just have to connect the dots, so to speak.

What is your opinion about the following types of L&C fanfic's?
Action?
I enjoy a good A-plot, although that is not necessarily the real story to me. It's the interaction between Lois and Clark that counts in my opinion.

Drama?
I'm a big fan of emotional drama, or angst, as it so affectionately called amongst the folc's.

Humor?
I try to include it in my stories. I think it's important to break up a story. You can't have all of one particular element.

Round Robin?
I've stuck in my two cents worth in a challenge....

Nfic?
Tried it and think I'm through. Unless it's to add a scene to a PG version of one of my stories....we'll see.

Has *everything* been done in your opinion, and if not, what is left?
A lot of everything has been done, but there is always one twist, one certain turn that a story can take that can turn it in to an unique premise. Even two authors viewpoints on the same topic can turn their respective stories into two different fics.

What do you think makes the best story?
Excellent writing skills, having a different premise and making sure you don't stray too far from canon that you don't recognize the characters or the situation.

Where is the best place for a reader to locate your work?
The archives, or here at Annesplace

.. Writing fanfic has become an important part of my life. As the mother of five children under thirteen, it helps keep me sane during those times when I need it. Mundane tasks, such as washing dishes, can turn into brainstorming sessions. Grocery store trips have become dialogue plotting excursions, though if I don't write a list, I find myself wandering through the frozen foods for the umpteenth time and still not picking up what I need.

Since starting to write, I'm stretching my brain again. I'm relearning grammar and writing skills, I'm studying new words - it's been a growing experience for me.

But most of all, it's the interaction between the writers and the readers that keep me coming back. I don't think I could just write the stories without these people to share them with. I've also formed some nice friendships over irc and Zoom's boards. So mostly, it's the people.
