Lois and Clark or Superman Status

How long have you been watching L&C?
I have to admit the first time I saw and ad for Lois and Clark I wasn't impressed, in fact I groaned. I felt someone was just trying to cash in on the whole "Death of Superman" crazes that had gone on the year before. To compound the matter my best friend was getting married and since I was the maid of honor I had no time to pay attention to any of the new shows that season. In fact the night the Lois and Clark premier came on I was at my friend's house watching her try on different bridal things. I distinctly remember flipping the channel seeing Dean Cain and not being impressed. Of course I look back on it now and laugh hysterically. It wasn't till a few weeks or months later I can't remember, that while waiting my turn to get into the bathroom I saw another snip of Lois and Clark. My dad was watching it and was trying to convince me what he was seeing was a really cute show. I sat down and waited, not really paying attention. Then I heard "...I want to kiss Clark good bye." I looked up only mildly interested. I mean really she wants to kiss the guy good bye how typical. Then she says, "I'll take the one on the left." A fist fight shortly erupts then ends. Only to have Lois thrown out of the plane, okay well that looked fun. Then something totally unexpected (at least to me) happens, Clark throws himself out of the plane. For whatever reasons it just hit me the right way and I was hooked, from then on I never missed a show.

How long have you been a fan of Superman?
Since I was very small. I adored the Christopher Reeves movies as well as the reruns of the old black and white show.

How long have you been writing?
I've dabbled off and on since middle school.

How long have you been writing L&C fanfic?
The two stories I submitted to the archives were written during 4th season. But I didn't feel comfortable about submitting them. Until someone pushed me . So I guess..... two years

What types of Fanfic have you written?
The first one I wrote was 'The Darkness Within' and alt world fic about what might have happened if Clark hadn't been found by the Kents. The second one 'Kidnapped' was about Lois and Clark's three children being taken off to New Krypton. And the third was my attempt at NFic 'Joined' Bad title I know. But it explored how Kal-El wasn't sent to earth and Krypton hadn't been destroyed. How he and Lois were still 'joined (perhaps a better word would have been bonded to each other.)

Most recent story posted? Where?
The Darkness Within, located at the archive. I've actually gotten a few people asking me to do a prequel to 'Kidnapped' So who knows I might actually be able to do it. :)

Favorite story you have written? Why?
As much as I liked 'The Darkness Within' I loved doing Kidnapped. I enjoyed writing the personalities of Lois and Clark's children and how I thought each one of them would act toward the other.

Current project/projects?
There are so many aspects of the Superman saga that has been explored and even more that can be. I have a couple of story lines running around.

Personal picks of other Fanfics you have read?
Oh there are so many! Anything by Erin Klinger, Chris Mulder, Faster Than A Speeding Bullet, Shot in the Dark, Dayz. (just to name a few) I'm a sucker for a well written WHAM.

General Interview Questions

What attracted you to writing Fanfic and what about it do you enjoy?
The whole idea of being able to put characters you care so much about and enjoy into situations you've created. The ability to make them react as you think they should or would.

What about the L&C and the characters do you like the most?
Clark for his unabashed joy of life, and his ability to see past Lois' hard edge. Seeing the woman for who she really is. Lois for being tough yet having the ability to love so completely. Her quick wit, and sarcastic humor made me like her from the start. Jimmy for being the trusty sidekick to our dynamic duo, and Perry for his ability to see down to the heart of the matter, not to mention his tough but fairness. Great father figure.

How do you interpret them in your work?
Well, I tried as hard as I could to stay as close to the characters as I see them. With 'The Darkness Within' I explored more of their flip side personalities.

How did you begin writing in general?
I would come up with little rhymes as a child and my mother encouraged me to write them down. Eventually the rhymes turned into scenes, which eventually turned into stories.

How do you feel about being nominated for a Kerth Award?
Amazed that someone else might like what came out of my head .

What story of yours was nominated for a Kerth Award and could you tell about it?
The title is "The Darkness Within". It was my exploration of what might have happened if the Kents' hadn't found Clark as a baby, instead he was taken through a series of events. Which end up partnering him with Lex Luther and what kind of influence this man had on Kal-El. I explored Kal's dark side but also the fact that no matter what else has happened ultimately Kal-El is good hearted and that Lois and Clar..er Kal-El are meant for each other.

Have you ever been nominated for the Kerth Award before? If so, please name the fanfic and tell something about it.
This is my first time.

What are you working on now and where do you see it going?
For the moment I've put aside my Lois and Clark fan fiction in favor of trying some X-Files fic. When I'm done with this one story I'm working on I think I'll do that prequel for 'Kidnapped'.

What is your opinion about the following types of L&C fanfic's?
Action?
I think action is the best type of LnC fanfic. The premise is just so well geared toward that, with all the bad guys and situations one can place the characters in...The sky's the limit (literally) with this one.

Drama?
Same goes for Drama, everything can fit so nicely together.

Humor?
LnC has great potential for fabulous humor and some have been able to pull it off brilliantly. But I think the best fics come when the author has been able to balance all the elements well and bring about a story that lasts in your memory for a long time to come.

Round Robin?
I personally tend to become impatient with round robins because of all the different styles of writing that get put into it. And everyone has their own idea of where the story should go. That is my general opinion however, The Round Robin's of later have been exceptionally entertaining and I'm happy to see my favorite one has been nominated, The Tai.

Nfic?
Here is another sticky one... I like them only some of the time. It really depends on the author's ability to describe the actually sexual encounter. There are some phrases and actions that seemed to become standard fair, and I just have to sit back and wonder if some body just cut and pasted. I love a well told sex scene where the author can convey the beauty and or the passion of the moment and still not make it seem as if I'm reading a gynecological report. And if there is a really cool story in there, well that's jut a perk.

Has *everything* been done in your opinion, and if not, what is left?
Oh no never! Not as long as the fans keep their imagination alive.

What do you think makes the best story?
A good healthy imagination and the ability to draw your readers in to it.

Where is the best place for a reader to locate your work?
The archive its all there :) (except for the nfic)
