Lois and Clark or Superman Status

How long have you been watching L&C?
Since 1996. Elisabeth, my very own Lois Lane, started before I did. I worked nights the first two seasons and we started with And the Answer Is? Talk about starting in the middle! After that episode we were hooked and it became our "Date Night." We were still living on a shoestring and so it made for a very romantic evening at home.

How long have you been a fan of Superman?
Since 1970 when I picked up my first Justice League of America comic #111. I have watched/read/and paid good money for everything I could get my hands on up until about 1988, then I discovered bills...

How long have you been writing?
I have been writing off and on since the 80's. Mostly sci fi but never really completed anything until "Not Even" and "7 Days of Superman."

How long have you been writing L&C fanfic?
Since 1998. It all started with reading a really bad FanFic. I thought to myself, "I could do better than that!" Elisabeth and I both started on our own stories and eventually combined them into "30 Days hath September / Between a Rock and a Dark Place." When that story stalled we both decided to shelve it for a while and write our own. Thus was born "Not Even" and "7 Days of Superman."

What types of Fanfic have you written?
I write weird shorts and crossover stories.

Most recent story posted? Where?
7 Days of Superman. http//www.geocities.com/mrd8a/7dos.htm

Favorite story you have written? Why?
It's a real toss-up between "30 Days/Dark Place" and "7 Days of Superman."

"30 Days/Dark Place" is the first collaborative work Elisabeth and I have done that has a possibility of actually getting finished without us having killed each other. She and I have very different styles of writing and ideas on how something should be done. We have tried in the past and ended up not talking to each other for a couple of days! This represents a labor of love for Lois and Clark. We are hoping to use this story as a launching point for a series of stories. Some cute, some serious.

"7 Days of Superman," on the other hand, is my second born. "Not Even..." was just a fluff piece, but 7DoS was the story that just wouldn't be finished. Every time I thought I was getting close, another aspect would pop up screaming to be solved. It is definitely my most complex story to date, and I am glad it is finished. Even so, for days afterward, I fought the urge to tweak it some more. I will polish it up a little before sending it to the Archive, after the Kerths 2001.

Personal picks of other Fanfics you have read?
There is not enough room for me to list all my favorites.
Irene's Firestorm series, as well as Jenni Debbage's Kent series are great.
I loved Pam's President Kent series (WE WANT MORE) enough to incorporate an alternate version of it in 7DoS.
The sheer size of LabRat's "Caped Fear" is enough for me to give it a nod, and it reads great too!
Several of Wendy's stories are quite good, but I think her best so far is "For the Greater Good."
Mobile Richard's "Life in a Different World" series was great too.
Okay I'll stop now before I fill up the next 5 pages.

General Interview Questions

What about the L&C and the characters do you like the most?
Being a science/technical oriented kind of guy, I like Dr. Klein the best. In Wanderings, I spotlight Klein as the hero, to a certain degree. I also like the villians, specifically Tempus and Luthor.

How do you interpret them in your work?
I try and see their motives and think the way they do. Getting behind the mind of Tempus was interesting.

How did you begin writing in general?
I have always loved reading so it seems natural that I would try my hand at writing.

What is your opinion about the following types of L&C fanfic's?
Action?
I like it when a story is fast paced.

Drama?
I like a serious story, even if it is a death fic, as long as it is handled well.

Humor?
Threads of a BBQ? comes to mind...

Round Robin?
I liked the Unintentional Series.

Has *everything* been done in your opinion, and if not, what is left?
No. There is a wealth of ideas and variants thereof. Look at how many times GGGH and TOGOM have been rewritten.

What do you think makes the best story?
A good A-Plot will get me every time, but with L&C the B-Plot is just as important. The show was about relationships and the stories should be too.
