Lois and Clark or Superman Status

How long have you been watching L&C?
I've watched L&C since it premiered on TV.

How long have you been a fan of Superman?
I started reading Superman comics when I was old enough to read comics and I watched Superman with George Reeves on TV since that show was on TV. (Now you don't have to ask my age.)

How long have you been writing?
I learned to write in grade one and began writing little stories back then. I surreptitiously wrote a novel when I was in junior high rather than pay attention in class. I wrote poetry in university and got published in some campus publications. As an adult, I've done some personal writing, but nothing publishable. Looks like I've been writing forever.

How long have you been writing L&C fanfic?
I started in the summer of 1999 because my daughter, who is responsible for introducing me to fanfic, told me I should. She dared me because I complained about the quality of some of the stories that I was reading.

What types of Fanfic have you written?
I've written a revelation story, a Jonathan and Martha story, a Valentine's Day story, and ohmygosh, I wrote an nfic. That was the junior high influence.

Most recent story posted? Where?
Valentine's Expectations on the archive dated February 2000.

Favorite story you have written? Why?
Can't say yet because I haven't written enough.

Current project/projects?
I'm really bogged down on this one. I had an idea that developed into the beginning of a fanfic, but then as I progressed the original premise got lost and a new one took its place but I don't want to lose the original thoughts and I'm really stuck and I don't know if I'll ever finish it and actually write another fanfic because I'm so confused...

Personal picks of other Fanfics you have read?
Oh there are so many. Today, my favourite (I'm Canadian and so that spelling is correct) is Wendy Richards' "Without Consent". I love all the angst she creates. I also like Nan Smith's work especially "Dagger of the Mind". M.L. Thompson has written some wonderful stories including Out of Time. And now I'm into ShayneT's Hearts and Diamonds.

General Interview Questions

What attracted you to writing Fanfic and what about it do you enjoy?
So, I was watching reruns of Lois and Clark and taping them because I couldn't stand a day without them. Then, I'd watch more than one show a day (since I had some on tape). My daughter, who is a fanfic fan, told me about fanfic and led me to the archives. It was summer vacation and I holed up in my nice cool basement office reading fanfic. I read good stuff and bad stuff. At times I moaned and groaned at the quality of writing. The grammar was really sad at times. Punctuation left a lot to be desired. I got angry when Lois cried all the time. I got mad when Clark seemed to wimp out. So, my daughter dared me to do better and I did. I also continued to read because I couldn't get enough of Lois and Clark.

What about the L&C and the characters do you like the most?
Clark, especially in fanfic, is every woman's dream. He's gorgeous, he's thoughtful, he's considerate, he's in love and not afraid to say it, he's not afraid to communicate (sometimes), he's vulnerable and yet he's strong, he's romantic, and he's not my husband.

How do you interpret them in your work?
I really like the way they work together. They feed off each other and need each other in order to make things work. I don't like them to get too mushy I don't write that as well as others do. I try to write a good A-plot where the reader can see them working together. I like their sense of humour together.

How do you feel about being nominated for a Kerth Award?
Haven't been nominated for a Kerth yet, but it's worth striving for.

What are you working on now and where do you see it going?
See current projects and then give me time and strength to finish it.

What is your opinion about the following types of L&C fanfic's?
Action?
Like it.

Drama?
Like it.

Humor?
Love it.

Round Robin?
When they're written well, they're terrific. I like them to be seamless.

Nfic?
Blush! Blush! Some great stories have been written. All of it I guess except that I don't read a lot of round robins because I found that the writing was uneven and that bothered me.

Has *everything* been done in your opinion, and if not, what is left?
There's always a new angle and a new story. I love to see people's imaginations at work. I hope I can keep up.

What do you think makes the best story?
Good solid writing, a movement away from cliche both in language and in topic, characters who conform to the canon but who have room to grow. (I can't stand a weepy Lois or a blubbering Clark.) Creativity and imagination work too.

Would you like to add a link or URL to your favorite fanfic for the readers to sample your writing?
This is beyond my computer expertise.

Where is the best place for a reader to locate your work?
Archives I guess. I haven't written that much. There's a lot of unfinished stuff on my desktop and in my head but I'd rather not have that accessed. (You can also check out her fanfic on this site - Anne :)
