Lois and Clark or Superman Status

How long have you been watching L&C?
I started watching Lois and Clark during the middle of the first season. On Sunday nights, I use to watch Murder, She Wrote. One episode, during a commercial, I decided to flip through the channels to see what else was on. I came across a couple who were generating so much electricity that I was instantly hooked.

How long have you been a fan of Superman?
Until Lois and Clark The New Adventures of Superman I wasn't a Superman fan. I was more of a Batman fan (sorry). My problem with Superman was that I never liked Lois Lane. After all, what type of reporter could possibly work next to Clark Kent and not know that he was Superman? Then Teri Hatcher took on the role... I really appreciated the way she never portrayed Lois Lane as dim-witted. She just had a blind spot when it came to Superman.

How long have you been writing?
I learned to print in grade one, but didn't learn to write until grade two... Oh, you mean, when did I start writing fiction. Actually, until I started writing Lois and Clark fanfic, I hadn't written any fiction in at least twenty years (unless you count writing affidavits for clients with a... less than Superman appreciation of the truth. :)

How long have you been writing L&C fanfic?
I started writing L&C fanfic during the summer of 1999 - shortly after I discovered it on the internet.

What types of Fanfic have you written?
I seem to have written mostly stories that are concerned with Lois and Clark getting together or early in their relationship. It hasn't exactly been my plan to stick to that type of story. It just seems that the ideas I've been getting deal with that time frame.

Most recent story posted? Where?
I have a story that should be coming out this month (January 2001) called `Cause and Effect.' It will be posted on www.lcfanfic.com. It provides an alternate beginning for Lois and Clark.

Favorite story you have written? Why?
My favorite story so far is `Out of Time.' I can't say exactly why I like that story. I guess, to use one of my mother's favorite expressions, it just tickled my fancy.

Current project/projects?
I currently have two projects underway. I am working on a sequel to `Out of Time.' I also had an idea while making final corrections to `Cause and Effect.' Well, given the way my mind works, one little `what if...' seems to have evolved into a whole new story. However, since I never know how a story is going to end until I get there, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Personal picks of other Fanfics you have read?
That's a tough question. There is so much really good stuff out there (and I just know that as soon as I send this in I'll remember a story that I thought was exceptional). I really liked `Home' by Nan Smith. It sent my imagination into overdrive. I am so glad that she has decided to continue on with the story. I also really liked `Without Consent,' by Wendy Richards, `Meet Me in Kansas City,' by Chris Mulder, the Recognition series by Carol Malo, `You Made Me Love You,' by Zoomway and `Heaven's Prisoners,' by Demi. Do you want me to go on... :)

General Interview Questions

What attracted you to writing Fanfic and what about it do you enjoy?
I wanted to read some fanfic one day and my server was down. I had set aside some time to read a story or two and so was feeling very frustrated. Suddenly, I decided to write a story instead of reading one. I laughed myself silly as I wrote my first story. It was horrible. I didn't let anyone see it, but I had so much fun that I had to try again and the rest, as they say, is history.

I guess what I enjoy most about writing fanfic is that it is a great way for me to relieve stress. After a hard day, I find it relaxing getting lost in a Lois and Clark story for a couple of hours. It reminds me that, no matter what's going on in my life, it's nothing compared to the problems Lois and Clark seem to get themselves into. :)

What about the L&C and the characters do you like the most?
I love the role reversal. Strong independent career woman meets sweet sensitive man. There is something about the way they pulled it off that I really enjoy. Obviously, Lois and Clark are my favorite characters, but I am also a big fan of Martha Kent. I see her as an older version of Lois Lane. I think my favorite villain is Lex (at least I seem to spend a lot of time trying to figure out new ways to kill him :)

How do you interpret them in your work?
I really struggle to find Clark in my work. There is a fine line between sensitive man and wimp and I really don't see Clark as a wimp. After all, as Lois Lane said during their wedding vows, he has a `quiet strength.' I also tend to regard Lois Lane's hard exterior as a cover for a woman with a lot of insecurities - in my experience, arrogance usually is. As a result, I try to make a distinction between her actions and her thoughts.

How did you begin writing in general?
I started writing L&C fanfic.

How do you feel about being nominated for a Kerth Award?
I've never been nominated for a Kerth Award so I really wouldn't know. But I imagine it feels great.

What are you working on now and where do you see it going?
Look above under Current Projects. However, I should warn you that even if I finish the two stories I'm working on now, they might never see the light of day. I tend to scrap a number of my stories after I've finished them. I find that sometimes, even when a story starts strong, it fizzles out somewhere along the way. When that happens, I tend to lose interest in the story.

What is your opinion about the following types of L&C fanfic's?
Action?
I like a little action in every story I read.

Drama?
I like a little drama in every story I read.

Humor?
I like a little humor in every story I read.

Round Robin?
I am absolutely in awe of people who do round robins. I find it hard enough coordinating my thoughts inside my head. The idea of doing it with a group is amazing to me. Besides, I am incurably shy. I'm not sure I'd have the nerve to let others see what I've written before I'm comfortable with it. :) I salute all of you who write these kinds of stories.

Nfic?
I like to sweat a little bit in every story I read.

Has *everything* been done in your opinion, and if not, what is left?
I don't think everything has been done. I have no idea what's left. However every week I see some great new idea when I sign on to see what's been posted and wonder to myself `Hey, why didn't I think of that?'

What do you think makes the best story?
I really have no idea. I know what I enjoy when I see it, but I can't explain what it is about a particular story that catches my interest.

Would you like to add a link or URL to your favorite fanfic for the readers to sample your writing?
http//www.lcfanfic.com/stories/2000/outofti.txt

Where is the best place for a reader to locate your work?
www.lcfanfic.com is the only place I've posted work to date.

I have really had a lot of fun writing stories and if you've enjoyed reading them, I'm glad. The help I've received with stories and the feedback I've received has been great. It's hard to believe that people I've never even met could be so helpful and so encouraging. So, I guess I want to thank everyone for their support.
