We've added a link to S6, for example, and have a new paragraph telling you how many new stories were added in the current week. And -- check this out!! -- the L&C Fanfic Archive has been selected by Entertainment Weekly magazine as one of the top 7 fanfic sites on the Web! Follow the new link to see the blurb they wrote about us. We also tried something new last month. In honor of the season -- we highlighted a few Thanksgiving-themed fanfics from the Archive. I, for one, thought the new design looked fantastic. I hope you took the opportunity to read (or re-read) some or all of these great stories! With Christmas quickly approaching, we'd like to do something similar for Christmas-themed stories. And that's where you come in. What stories would you like to see highlighted this month? When someone mentions a Christmas themed fanfic, what pops into your head? We'd love to hear about your favorite Christmas L&C fanfic. Please post these titles to the fanfic listserv (it could start a great thread, as well as prompt someone else's memory of another story), or send it to the Archive via private email (LCStories@cryogen.com). If we get enough suggestions, maybe we can even do "The Twelve Days of L&C Christmas Fanfic" or something. Can you help us choose? We need your help! I am behind in watching tapes anyone sent me, in reading stories, articles and List posts, and, in writing L&C related stuff, due to a trio of events last week which delayed all my usual activities. 1. Saw Elizabeth Barondess (S1 Lucy Lane) appear on an ep of The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. 2. Happened to see a larger selection than usual of Sman Comix at La Guardia airport on Monday, 11/23 (went to Mass. for a funeral). 3. Coming home that night, my cab passed a parking garage that sported a huge picture of the comix Sman on one wall, along with many other pictures, which I didn't see clearly enough to identify. 4. Chris Reeve, terrific in Rear Window on Sunday, played a character named Jason Kemp, but, of course, I thought I heard "Kent"!! (Or was it really Kent ?!?) 5. Rear Window again: use of same Beethoven piece used on L&C first date, as Daryl Hannah feeds something to Chris Reeve. I couldn't help but see a similarity:) 6. Sman video game: now available, seems to rely heavily on Sman punching villains. 7. More L&C like story lines on Early Edition: Gary asks the girl out but has to leave. Finds himself in odd looking sitatuation with another woman (protective custody by government agent) and his girl not only follows him, but gets into the act of helping him. 8. Bought the Sman Hallmark keepsake items: miniature lunch box, tiny Sman figure and Action Comics ornament. Had to ask for the latter two because they were not out. Don't settle and don't be afraid to ask if you don't see it! 9. Visited my Dad in the hospital (leg bypass surgery, he's home and better) and on the way to my mother's house, we passed a closed shop (it was Thanksgiving) that sported a yellow awning. The lettering on the awning was red. The store carries comic books and had a huge S-Shield on each end of the awning. 10. Dana Carvey's act was on the Comedy Central cable channel. I was flipping channels when I happened to catch his bit about kids driving parents crazy but making up for it by being really cute. He said that the cuteness of the kid made him weak. He likened the feeling to being Sman on Kryptonite! 11. The Macy's Thanksgiving Parade boasted that Teri Hatcher would be there but I managed to miss her. I was taping all the Broadway stuff. When I took a few moments to check that I had captured the Scarlet Pimpernel scene, I must have missed her then, because I saw the rest of the parade and didn't see her. Can anyone verify that she was there or did she not appear? 12. Robert Townsend's The Meteor Man was on this past weekend and there were tons of Sman and Batman references and borrowings. James Earl Jones and Frank Gorshin were in it. It was actually a very sweet natured take with inner city versions of things. His mom really gets into making a series of costumes till they hit a decent looking one and many of his powers were similar to Sman. The character even was supposed to have a fear of heights! It was released in 1993 and I thought that there was much L&C owes to this version. 13. I agree that "Quick Change" by Carla Humbert is the most hilariously funny fanfic I've read. While I've gotten a chuckle out of some like the Thanksgiving story on the archive, "My Adentures With Superman" by Kathryn Kent, and a charge out of anything with banter by Zoom, etc, "Quick Change" had me ROTFLMAO both of the first two times I read it. Even earlier today, when I skimed it, my third time thru, I giggled like crazy. I could clearly see Dean and Eddie in this and think it is a shame a scene like it was not in the pilot. 14. I have a suggestion for anyone who has jury duty. Bring along jokes to read and you'll even enjoy being there. I had a day of jury duty last week (we were released after only one day due to a lack of cases pre-Thanksgiving) and an inch high pile of jokes forwarded to me via e-mail. One was a set of wacky newspaper headlines, I trust would never be found in the Daily Planet, that I will try forward to the list under separate cover. I laughed all day and it was perfect reading while being constantly interrupted for annoucements. ========================================================================= Date: Tue, 1 Dec 1998 14:12:10 -0500 Reply-To: "Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman Fanfic" Sender: "Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman Fanfic" From: Carolyn Schnall Subject: Headlines Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" > >These aren't all great but the few that are make this worth it. > >STUPID HEADLINES >> Here are a few choice headlines that may serve to reaffirm your perception >> that there are still a few lightbulbs in the house of humanity that remain >> unlit. >> >> Larger Kangaroos Leap Farther, Researchers Find >> The Los Angeles Times, November 2 >> >> Court Rules Boxer Shorts Are Indeed Underwear >> Journal of Commerce, April 20 >> >> Biting nails can be sign of tenseness in a person >> The Daily Gazette of Schenectady, New York, May 2 >> >> Lack of brains hinders research >> The Columbus Dispatch, April 16 >> >> How we feel about ourselves is the core of self-esteem, >> says author Louise Hart Boulder, Colorado, Sunday Camera, Feb 5 >> >> 'Light' meals are lower in fat, calories >> Huntington Herald-Dispatch, November 30 >> >> Alcohol ads promote drinking >> The Hartford Courant, November 18 >> >> Malls try to attract shoppers >> The Baltimore Sun, October 22 >> >> Official: Only rain will cure drought >> The Herald-News, Westpost, Massachusetts >> >> Study Finds Sex, Pregnancy Link >> Cornell Daily Sun, December 7, 1995 >> >> Whatever Their motives, Moms Who Kill Kids still Shock Us >> Holland Sentinel, date unknown. >> >> Survey Finds Dirtier Subways After Cleaning Jobs Were Cut >> The New York Times, November 22 >> >> Teen-age girls often have babies fathered by men >> The Sunday Oregonian, September 24 >> >> Low Wages Said Key to Poverty >> Newsday, July 11 >> >> Man shoots neighbor with machete >> The Miami Herald, July 3 >> >> Tomatoes come in big, little, medium sizes >> The Daily Progress, Charlottesville, Virginia, March 30 >> >> Dirty-Air Cities Far Deadlier Than Clean Ones >> Study Shows The New York Times, March 10 >> >> Man Run Over by Freight Train Dies >> The Los Angeles Times, March 2 >> >> Scientists see quakes in L.A. future >> The Oregonian, January 28 >> >> Wachtler tells graduates that life in jail is demeaning >> The Buffalo News, February 26 >> >> Free Advice: Bundle up when out in the cold >> Lexington Herald-Leader, January 26 >> >> Economist uses theory to explain economy >> Collinsville Herald-Journal, February 8 >> >> Discoveries: Older blacks have edge in longevity >> The Chicago Tribune, March 5 >> >> Bible church's focus is the Bible >> Saint Augustine Record, Florida, December 3, 1994 >> >> Clinton pledges restraint in use of nuclear weapons >> Cedar Rapids Gazette, April 6 >> >> Fish lurk in streams >> Rochester, New York, Democrat & Chronicle, January 29 >> >============ >More Actual Headlines (from Journalists who didn't major in English!!!) >> >> >>1.) The first one would probably be Gorn's "The One and Only," but that's nfic, available on her webpage, but not on the archives. I always liked Angela Wathall's "Hark", which is in the archives . It's pre-revelation and Romantic and Waffy and Christmassy. It was one of the first fanfic's I ever read, which may be why it sticks in my mind. The sequel "Deja-View" (which takes place on New Year's Eve) was too racy for the archives, I guess -- it's not there, but I think Debby Stark has it on her site. There must be more I'm not remembering. Steve and Jaime spent years doing it, but they finally did wind up married... talk about soulmates. Steve, like Clark, could bend metal with his hand and run ridiculously fast. He was also a pilot (at home in the air). Jaime, like Lois, was an amazingly strong woman of insatiable curiosity and athletic talent... she was always dangling above the jaws of death (parachuting was what got her into the bionic mess in the first place). Well, I'm somewhat new at this fanfic thing too, only finishing my second one the night before last. But, what I do is start my story in my word processor (MsWorks) so that I can spell check and word count and all that stuff, then when I'm sure that it's how I want it, I copy and paste it into a regular text file (Notepad) to send to the archive. I loved that one. Now, off the topic, well sort of. About two years ago, back when I first got the internet, I was surfing around and I stumbled onto this lyrics page or whatever it was. It had lots of songs with Lois and Clark versions of the lyrics. I printed out most of them, but I don't know where I found them, so I only have some of them. There are lots more, and if someone recognizes them and can tell me where I found them, I would appreciate it, I'd like the rest of the songs now. Ok, anyway, here are two of them, they are even christmas songs! "Superman" sung to the tune of "Silver Bells" Lyrics by WandaD *** You are strong and so peculiar Where were you say, last year? You have saved me from so many dangers. I don't know you, yet I trust you My heart soars when you're near And I wonder if your heart soars too. Superman Superman Are you alone in this city? I am here I am near You wont be lonely for long. When you fly above the city I wish to be in your arms To feel the strength that is hidden within you. Yur arms around me my heart pounding As we fly through the sky I will love you and someday you'll know. Superman Superman Are you alone in this city? Among other things, I have a transcription of the Revelation in the comc books, when Clark told Lois he was Superman. Hope that helps!:) That works if your story is short enough, but if you get very big, Notepad won't hold that much text (although Wordpad will). Your best bet is to save it as a text file, no matter what program you're using. To make sure the archive can read my stuff, I set my margins and font so I get no more than 65 characters to a line; then I cut and paste into an email program. Given the size of my stories, it takes several emails since I send only 20K at a time. Using these line lengths and email sizes ensures that even the most primitive email program can handle my story whether I send it to the list or the archive, and the shorter line length avoids those annoying line wraps. I do not know, but I think the palpitations I am having could be heard in Metropolis. The first story I ever read at the Fanfic Archive was Meet me in Kansas City. I have actually wandered through the archive just reading those descriptions and had a great time, weird, yes, but true. I don't know why, but that story just screamed Read Me! I think we all do. I discovered the Fanfic Archive in almost my first half hour of finally being online. Put in a search for LNC and it was the second thing that came up. Oh boy - I was in heaven. My previous first love had been a western series called THE YOUNG RIDERS. I was lucky to have managed to scrape together three zines and a handful of other stories - all garnered painstakingly and expensively by mail order from the States over a period of two years. I hadn't even considered the possibility there may be fanfic sites on the net. Just didn't occur to me for some reason. I filled up 8 lever arch folders of printouts before I stopped to figure that there was probably an easier - and cheaper way - of storing all this great fic for offline reading. My poor printer almost had a heart seizure. But, oh, the wonderful fun of printing for an evening and then hauling a huge bundle of paper downstairs to curl up into the small hours of the morning with story after beautiful story. I didn't sleep for a month. I can't remember what my very first was, I read so many in one sitting, but it seemed back then that each new adventure got better than the last. And I love it. I woudl say the first fan fiction I ever read was probably either TAE HEIR or TH HUNTRESS' REVENGE. They are my two favourite fan fictions In fact I have written to the author of THE HEIR a few time to say how much I enjoy, but they always come back. So if you are on his list, please accept my comments. THE HEIR is one of the best written fan fiction I have ever read. I enjoy the interaction between the Kents and ois when Clark tells her that Zara/Sara have a son. It was a pretty emotional day for me yesterday. I read it for the 3rd or 4th time and also listb to "Big Girls Don't Fly." I was not home on Tues night when it was onso my husband taped it for and my VCR neeed a head cleaning so I ave sound, but no picture. I will just have to wait until it comes around in a few mos to see the facal expressions. I can nust imagine the set the day that those scenes were filmed, I know tha there was not a dry eye in the house when Clark said god bye to family and friends. I esp loved the bacground music ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ========================================================================= Date: Fri, 4 Dec 1998 08:38:43 EST Reply-To: "Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman Fanfic" Sender: "Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman Fanfic" From: Charlotte Fisler Subject: Re: PROMO - S6, ep 2, "For The Good Of The Child" Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit Wow written by Chris. It was the first fanfic I'd ever written, and I was pretty nervous about posting it, but I was thrilled all the positive feedback I got. Sorry your e-mails bounced back to you - I've changed servers a couple of times since then, but never changed the address at the archive. BTW - The name of the story has been changed....or at least, broadened. The Heir is now the name of a *potentially* three part series. The first is now The Heir: Return. The second was written with my dear friend and writing partner, Peace. (though not as often now since I've moved and she fell in love, but that's another story .....) It is called The Heir: Healing, and is much longer and pretty dark. It picks up exactly where the first story ends, and deals with what happend to L&CK that night, and the next day. It's also nfic, so its not at the archive. If you'd like to read it, Joyce is distributing it if you'll just send her an age statement, and a promise not to redistribute. Again, thanks for your comments. They made my day! I remember my first dose of fanfic just the same way. It's a tie for what I actually read first because I found them both at the same time and read them simultaneously (I do this a lot, you'll usually see me with three books and I'm half way through all of them). I found Season 5 and Debby Stark's re-write of the clone arc and I was the happiest little person you'd ever seen. I'd already made it through the series one time (I only started watching when TNT aired the re-runs) and had just recently got connected again to the Internet (Can't believe my dinky town got access), I used to use Genie, then CompuServe, then AOL but that's a whole other story. I so enjoyed both of these because they took care of the two things I hated about the only T.V. show that ever touched me. Season 5 continued the saga where the dreaded "Family Hour" had left me hanging and screaming and throwing things at my T.V. (this actually happened FoLCs), and Debby's re-write made the clone arc bearable where the actual one they played on the series, I detested. From there, the rest is history, I've read every piece of fanfic I could fit into my day to day life and I think have every story from the archive stored on my computer. I also have recently started writing, just this week finishing my second story. My whole experience of FoLCdom has left me with an overwhelming sense of glee, a perpetual high, I guess, and most of my real-life friends think I'm wacko, but that's okay, ya'll understand me and that's enough. The one most remembered fanfic still remains my favorite; Heaven's prisoners by Demi. I printed it one day and took it with me on my trip home. I walked to the tram stop and whilst waiting for the tram I was hooked. By the time the tram came I had tears streaming down my face. I got on the tram mechanically and read it, crying my eyes out all the way into the city (1hr). How I got off the tram and onto the train I don't quite remember but I did and was still engrossed in it all the way home. I even waited for the bus instead of walking the rest of the way home just so I could keep reading the story. Now, I can just about recite that story off by heart but whenever I read it I get the same feelings. Whenever I need a good cry I read that fanfic . Well, on this thread, I have to say that the first fanfic I read, was actually Demi's nfic, "And the Answer Isn't". I still treasure that story to this day, and I loved how she wrote the interaction between Lois and Clark. It was fantastic, and truly epitomized all that I love about LnC, especially as they grew slowly closer at the end of season 2, and CK's ultimate secret was revealed. Since discovering that story, I have enjoyed countless other fanfic and nfic by many, many authors, and I continually look forward to new stories being written. Over this past summer, I printed off a colossal amount of fanfic from the archive (while I could still do it for free, or for my $25,000 tuition, depending on how you look at it ), and have enjoyed every last one of them. Fanfic authors truly keep they heart and soul of this phenomenal show alive. So to all you seasoned, or potential, fanfic writers out there, keep it up! --Erin V. ========================================================================= Date: Sat, 5 Dec 1998 11:11:02 PST Reply-To: "Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman Fanfic" Sender: "Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman Fanfic" From: Peace Everett Subject: Re: PROMO - S6, ep 2, In-Reply-To: <19981204151417.13084.qmail@hotmail.com> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="Default"; X-MAPIextension=".TXT" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Sue wrote (most of the post snipped) > >I want to download several of the fan fiction stories for my husban= d > ho is always looking for something new to read. Are your people with you?" He said with his mouth full that they were here, too. He promised that he'd never leave me again, Then some weirdo flew up and asked, "Family friend?" I exclaimed, "Very friendly!" and gave him a glare. The guy cleared his throat, trying hard not to stare. He suggested that Clark should "Unhand your friend," And return to his troops and his new bride again. The look on Clark's face showed his poor broken heart. Two minutes together and then forced apart. They took Clark away, they shattered my dream. And I went inside and ate lots of ice cream. And then Ching came up and said, "There is a way! I'll get you in to see Kal-El today!" I got a job in Krypton's monarchy. I got to be concubine to my Clarkie! I thought to myself, this could be rather fun, Though my mom'd freak out if she knew what I'd done. At first, Clark refused to have a concubine, But the girls were led in, and his eyes met mine. About this tradition, Kal-El changed his mind. Having a concubine would be just fine! I was put on a leash, like a household pet, Though I doubted that dog food was quite what I'd get. (Petting, however, well, let's not go there.) I kissed Clark and ran my hands through his dark hair. He pulled back and confessed he had something to say. Right now, before we got carried away. "I didn't with Zara, you have to know that. You're the only to love me, the first and the last." The Trey interrupted, but that was okay. This was sure shaping up to be a great day. My rhyme thinker-upper has run out of verse. If I write any more, it will surely be worse. So break out your tapes-- you know how it ends, But that shouldn't stop you from watching again! ========================================================================= Date: Sat, 5 Dec 1998 15:43:07 -0500 Reply-To: "Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman Fanfic" Sender: "Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman Fanfic" From: My brother is getting married!! Nothing had worked: not nursing, changing her diaper, rocking her or singing to her, which had left Lois only with pacing back and forth while patting Laura's back. Woman of action that s= he was, she wanted to be doing something, but all she was able to do at that= moment was walk a fussy baby around. = All? Had she thought, "all?" "Oh, Laura, honey, Mommy didn't mean that. You're the most important little girl in the whole world. I love you, sweetiepie. I just wish I knew what was wrong so I could fix it. Does your tummy hurt?" Laura's only response was to wail even harder. Just then Laura's daddy came into the room. He, like Lois, was dressed for bed, and he carried a cup of hot tea for his wife. Decaf. "Here, Lois. You take this, and let me take Laura for a while." "I don't know what I'm doing wrong, Clark." "Probably nothing, honey." "Then why can't I soothe her? I always could before ... eventually. And= I'm so worried that if I can't soothe her, the Social Services people are= going to burst back in here and--" Clark watched in dismay as the second of his two girls started crying. = He put the tea cup down on the bedside table and then reached to take Laura. "Maybe she's overtired, Lois. This day has been hard on her, too= . = She may be picking up on your anxiety a little." Lois handed the baby to Clark and tried to stop crying, but it wasn't eas= y as she recalled what they'd come home to a few hours before: the ambulance, police cars, curious neighbors and onlookers, the TV cameras a= nd that obnoxious woman from Social Services, Ms. Bailey. Her mother had be= en put on a stretcher and wheeled away, barely conscious and babbling unintelligibly. Sam had driven up as they were loading his ex-wife into the ambulance, and had run into the townhouse only long enough to find ou= t if Lois and Laura were safe before running out again to drive to the hospital. He'd seen the empty liquor bottle on the floor, and the pained= look on his face had kept Lois from telling him that some of the people i= n their overcrowded living room seemed intent on taking away his grandchild= . Thank heavens for Inspector Henderson. He'd heard the call on his scanne= r and had come over to see if he could help. It was largely because of him= that they'd been able to maintain custody of Laura--well, him and the mor= e sane social worker who was Bailey's associate. There was going to be a hearing though, to determine their fitness as parents, and Lois was terrified. "It will be all right, sweetheart." Lois felt Clark's arm come around her and looked up at him. He must have= been watching her and guessed what she was thinking. She could see her o= wn fear reflected in his eyes, so it probably hadn't been a difficult guess for him. This situation was bound to be uppermost in both of their minds= . "How could Mother do something like this, Clark?" "I don't know Lois. Maybe--" "I thought she loved Laura. I thought she could be trusted with her. Wh= y? Why, after all these years of being sober would she do this? Especially= when things were going so well. There's no reason why she--" They stared at each other. The same doubt in both of their minds. Why? "Let me see if I can get Laura settled and then we'll talk." "Okay." Clark carried Laura next door to her room, murmuring softly to her and stroking her back. She was really upset, poor little thing. He coul= d feel his own emotions building up within him, and forced himself to calm down so he could help his daughter. Holding her next to his bare chest, he used his ability to control his vital signs in order to slow his heart rate and respiration. His voice, deeper than Lois's, created lower vibrations, and he was able to float rather than walk for a gentler sense of movement. He kept this up for a few minutes and was pleased to see that Laura was responding. Her cry carried less conviction than before and he could sense that she was listening to him now. = Deciding it was time for the next step, he floated up a little higher and gradually laid back, as if he were stretching out to go to sleep on a= cushion of air. Hovering there, he began to rock back and forth slightly= , still stroking her back and talking to her softly, until he felt her tiny= body relax against him. She moved her head restlessly once more then, finding just the right spot on her daddy's warm chest, she settled hersel= f for sleep. Clark heard her sigh sleepily, and felt her snuggling into his chest, and= once more he experienced that knife-sharp feeling of love he had for this= wonderful little person who was his daughter. It never failed to tighten= his chest, or bring tears to his eyes, and always amazed him that joy and= pain could be combined into the same emotion and in such perfect proportions. = No one ... *no one* was going to take this child away from him and Lois. = It wasn't going to happen, and he told Laura so. "Don't worry, little one," he told her softly. "Everything is going to b= e all right. Your mommy and I love you very much and we're going to make sure we all stay together. We're a family now, the family I've always wanted, and we won't let anyone separate us, sweetheart." "No, we won't." Clark turned his head in surprise. There was Lois standing in the doorway, watching him. He'd been so involved with Laura that he hadn't heard her approach. She walked forward now, and stood next to Clark. He= floated upwards a little so Lois could see into Laura's sleeping face. S= he reached out and placed her hand on his where it lay on their child's back= . = A look passed between them, and a renewed resolve and commitment was agre= ed upon without either of them having to say a word. They put Laura into her crib, after Clark had first pre-warmed the sheet with his heat vision, and then stayed awake for another couple of hours talking over what had happened, and what they were going to do about it. = One thing they decided on right at the beginning was that Laura would be with one or the other of them at all times until this was resolved. ****** The next morning they found some reporters waiting outside their townhous= e. "Great!" Lois grumbled. "This is just what we needed." She didn't want to feel as though she were under siege, so she told Clark= she and Laura would go with him to the Daily Planet. "If I stay here, th= e phone will be ringing constantly, not to mention the doorbell. Besides, we're probably safer at the Planet." Seeing the worry on his face, she gave him a hug. "I know it's not the weekend we'd planned on, but at lea= st we will be together." That being decided upon, he helped her pack what she'd need for herself and the baby. They made it to the car, thanks to a little judiciously applied super strength, which enabled them to forge a path through the throng. = Clark stood between Lois and the other reporters while she buckled Laura into the carseat. He was pleasant to them, but firm in his assertions tha= t all this would be cleared up, and in their favor, then asked them to let him and Lois get to their office in peace. = "I'm sure that none of you would want to risk a child's life by driving recklessly," he said with conviction. Lois wasn't so sure about that, but Clark's words did seem to have appeal= ed to the better natures of most of the reporters, for they were able to dri= ve to the Daily Planet, if not without an escort, at least without harassmen= t. All this made Lois glad that she and Laura were going to stay within the fastness of the Planet. "They can't get to me in here, Clark ... or Laura, either." They were standing in the smaller of the two conference rooms, where Perr= y had said Lois could set up shop for the time being. Clark was helping he= r move some of her stuff in there. "I can have privacy in here to nurse her and take care of her, and still get some work done. I'm going to stay on the trail of these companies th= at Lex used to own. I know there's something going on there, and maybe that= 's why--" She broke off, suddenly unable to continue. The memories of yesterday were too bleak. Clark put his hands her shoulders to comfort her, and sh= e tried to smile for him. "I'll be okay, Clark. I don't know why I get so= weepy so quickly these days. I guess being a mom will do that to you." "Being a dad can do that to you, too," he told her and, as she looked more closely at him, she could see a moistness in his eyes as well. = They leaned towards each other, and their foreheads touched--a wonderfully comforting gesture which meant a great deal to both of them. = A knock on the door interrupted them. It was Jimmy, ready to set up a computer for Lois. = "Some things never change," Lois murmured, with a smile and a small sniff= . She reached up to wipe the corner of her eye, and Clark kissed her forehead before going to open the door for their young friend. "Thanks for helping us with this, Jimmy," Clark told him. = "No problem, CK. The Chief let me have Wednesday off so I could work on Penny's car. I'm making up time just like you are." A few minutes later Clark signaled to Lois that he needed to slip into something more suitable for flying. She smiled at him and blew him = a kiss. Oblivious to this, Jimmy chatted on, enthusiastic about the play h= e and Penny had been to the night before, with Mr. and Mrs. Barnes. "I thi= nk her parents are really beginning to like me. Were you nervous when you first met Lois's parents, CK? ... CK?" ****** Superman was pretty busy all that day, but not too busy to pay a visit to= an old friend, Constance Hunter. Her law career had taken an upward swin= g after her successful defense of Superman in that lawsuit brought by Calvi= n Dregg. He'd kept in touch with her since then, and knew that success hadn't changed her much, beyond giving her more self-confidence. She was= still the same caring and honest person that she'd been when he'd first m= et her, so he wasn't surprised when she promised to help his friends, Lois a= nd Clark, in their upcoming custody hearing. Jimmy, once he'd gotten the excitement of the previous night's date out o= f his system, had offered to help, too. Several Planet staffers, as a matt= er of fact, made it a point to tell either Lois or Clark that they wanted to= help, or were thinking of them, or would be glad to testify on their behalf. It made both of them feel good to know they had such faithful friends. Perry had offered the use of the not inconsiderable resources of the newspaper, as well as his own support. There had been no hesitation = at all on his part when they'd asked him to be a character witness. He'd be= en at their home several times and had seen them often with Laura. = Clark was extremely busy, what with various rescues as Superman, his newspaper assignments, and a conference call with Lois and Constance Hunter, but he was still able to spare a thought or two for his parents. = They would certainly want to know what was happening, but he wasn't exact= ly sure where they were. The last word he'd received from them had been fro= m South Dakota, but that was nearly a week ago now. They could be anywhere= by this time, and he didn't want to leave Lois and the baby long enough t= o go searching for them. At least, not yet.
