lol... maybe not, but it sure is fun.  Last weekend was NEFF (the New
England
Folk Fest), and you should have seen the ruckus we created at the Warner
Brothers store... I don't think we left a thing.  Here we are... 18 grown
women... fondling the superman statue and buying everything with his picture
on it... it was really cool <vbeg>.

As for my favorite, it has to be the Superman Milk Bottle (the profferred
drink of supreheros everywhere)... it is a glass milk bottle with sups on
the
front, and a "Smallville Dairy" stamp on the back... with a recommendation
to
visit "Ma and Pa Kent" on your next visit.  I took it to use as my water
bottle at school, and I've had 3 of my kids (I teach school) try to talk me
out of it... and they don't even *like* milk!

As for off-topic, nah.  We are just off on a tangent (duly noted in the
subject line)... so, what does everyone else out there count as their most
prized posession??  Anyone??

My most prized Lois and Clark possesion is definitely my superman pj's.
Everyone remembers the ones that Lois wore in "I'm Looking Through You,"
they were blue with the superman 's' on the front.  When my grandmother
found out that I loved the show (she loves it too), she made them for
me, wasn't that nice of her.

Sorry to bother you this way, but I've just recently subscribed to the
LoisCla
listserv and I was wondering if anyone out there
could help me...?

I am from Portugal (Europe, close to Spain) and L&C is being shown at this
moment on our TV for the second time. As I missed the first round
completely,
this is all very new to me. They are finishing the 3rd Season at the moment
of
writing.

I didn't see the first 5 episodes and only started video taping the eps from
the
Witness one onwards. I also "lost"
my tape of Ultrawoman.
I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the eps are for sale anywhere or
if
it's possible to get hold of them some way...?
It would be very much appreciated if someone could help.
Oh, yes... just another thing. Our VCR system is different from the
American,
which complicates things even more.

I definitely have to agree with that.  The Folc I've met in person, or
simply
on line, have been the best part. As far as 'material' mementos, well, Di
and
Bill gave me the music sheet from Trask's Theme, Grant Rosenberg sent me a
cast and crew cap and Tim Minear sent me his scripts.  L&C has always given
me
more than I can repay, and I still watch the show on TNT even though I have
all the eps on tape ;)

Just to clarify, there are two L&C listservs.  LOISCLA is the "main" list,
for discussion of the episodes, actors, characters, etc.  This list,
LOISCLA-GENERAL-L, or "the fanfic list" is mainly for discussion of fanfic,
though we certainly do branch off into other topics.

The fact that you aren't on the American system does complicate things.
L&C is on in reruns in the US on TNT, and you might find someone who would
be willing to tape those few episodes for you if you offer to reimburse the
costs.  However, if you can't read those tapes, it won't do you much good.

Does Portugal use the same VCR system as the UK or other European
countries? Or Australia?  If so, you might want to direct your plea to
European or Australian FoLCs who might be able to  copy their existing
tapes of those episodes for you.  Since you are only looking for six
specific episodes, you might have an easier time of it than someone asking
for tapes of an entire season.

I know that tapes of the first season (and the beginning of the second?)
were available for sale in the UK a few years ago.  I don't know if they
still are for sale, or if they were only there for a limited time.

Well my family thinks I'm regressing back to my childhood because I'm
constantly looking for  something with superman on it, a keychain,
p.j.'s anything!! (I tell them it helps me to have something in common
with my son! The truth is I'm definitly into it more then him! <g>) But
I can find nothing here in Hawaii!  I just went on vacation and drove
through 3 states (California, Oregon, and Washington) and could find
nothing!  Tons of Trekkie stuff but no Supes stuff! :(  The only thing I
got was my picture taken by a giant comic book Superman at the Oregon
Museum of Science Institue.  It didn't turn out too well, but it's all I
got and it's pretty darn special to me!

As far as I'm aware, the WB tapes are still on sale here in the UK in PAL
format, although the Pilot can be a little trickier to track down than the
others. But it depends which episodes you're looking for, Celia (sorry
missed your original post). WB pulled the plug on us after tape 13
(TOGOM/BFTB/SG) when LNC was cancelled. So we only ever made it to midway
through season two. Which was a pity because although in places the
packaging was extremely sloppy (transposed episode titles/wrong episode
titles on the covers) they were done in really neat white cases with the S
shield on them and look really cool on my video shelves. Would have liked to
have had a full set.>

Well, my most prized Lois and Clark related possession would be a t-shirt
that
two friends made me for my last birthday. It's white, short sleeves, and has
a
small Superman shield in the left corner. On the back is written: "Just
remember there are no perfect sunsets - there's a little crack in every
cloud,
but that's what gives you your silver lining." (Perry, DTOSC)

Second place would have to go to two of my Superman action figures. They
were
my brother's and mind when we were young. One is Superman with a red cloth
cape
and the other is Clark Kent, in a business suit and painted-on black
glasses. I
get great reactions from people coming into my room and asking just *who*
that
action figure is supposed to be. And it even provided a little inspiration
once
when I was writing a fanfic. :)

case it is of interest to others.

The first 30 episodes were released in England by 'Warner Home Video'
(UK).  Our video system uses the PAL format.

You may be able to order them from:
http://www.hmv.co.uk

HMV is a big chain of shops in the UK and the Oxford Street branches in
London are particularly good at stocking L&C videos.  I've never ordered
them through the internet though.  As an international buyer that is
your only option.  Earlier volumes may now be deleted but are in some of

Aloha Celia,

I am not aware that there is an availability of commercial tapes on L&C.
Should you meet with some kind FOLC who is willing to send you copies of the
series you should have no problem viewing them on your machine. Most
recording companies and local television stations have the equipment
available to duplicate the tape into the necessary format and for a small
fee are usually willing to do so. The audio video department of a university
is also a resource you might look into.  A friend of mine in England sends
me Red Dwarf videos in exchange for L&C videos and we have no problem
getting them translated into the appropriate formats.
BTW my daughters and I were in Lisbon in 93, we loved it.

t-shirts, made from pictures I downloaded from my computer off various L&C
websites.   I have kiss t-shirts, I have the shower scene t-shirt, I have
grope t-shirts, In all colours, extra large to wear with jeans, extra extra
large to wear over a swimsuit.  Oh, yes, their is also my prized Pareau,
air brushed with the classic Lois and Superman shot.  Talk about L&C chic! I

They were on sale in *Woolworth's* when I was in England last month.  There
is *nothing* more frustrating than seeing a bona fide video of the show you
love and not being able to buy it because it won't work on your VCR!<grrrr>

England seemed to have videos of a lot of shows that don't come out on
video here, although they're created and air here.

I swear it's an evil plot!  Lex Luthor must have *something* to do with
this, dontcha think?<g>

I don't know if it's true or not, but I'd heard that the reason for this is
that there's little market in the States for sell thru videos of TV shows
and movies. That the American psyche is more directed towards video rental
than in collecting the critters on sale and are more likely to simply tape
straight from the TV than shell out cash for the packaged version. Whereas
your average Brit will happily dole out the money to add to their tape
collection. That's the excuse from TPTB anyhow. Over here, it's gotten
highly unusual *not* to find your favorite TV show on sale in the high
street. We've kinda gotten to expect it and are disappointed and surprised
when we discover our favorite show isn't on the shelves. The BBC in
particular has lead the explosion in recent years. A nice little earner for
'em. <g>

Did someone ask on the list why BEST MEN's release was delayed in the US and
query why it premiered in Europe first? Or am I getting confused with
someone who mailed me personally? <g> Whatever - I'd heard recently that the
reason for this was that the gay rights lobby in the States had kicked up a
fuss over a straight guy playing a gay character and spooked the
distributors. Can't imagine that's so, as loads of straight actors have
played gay characters in the past. Anyone got any gen?

Well, skip week is over and we hope you'll be able to join us Saturday,
October 17, 1998, for our fanfic writing session.

In this week's story it's Lois's and Clark's anniversary and they have plans
for a *private* celebration.  Unfortunately for them their friends have
other
plans (does that surprise party at the end of AKA Superman ring any bells?

and of course there's the fact that Clark moonlights in tights<eg>. Will
Lois
and Clark find a way to spend quality time together ?

own that you would like us to explore together.  You can either email them

Saturday
or for our weekly "story bouncing" sessions on Wednesdays on #L&CFicOrg,

We generally meet Saturdays starting at 3 PM EDT and try to start writing
fairly soon thereafter.  You can come and join the fun at any time, however.
We are usually there for several hours since writing a story takes time.

Since #L&CFanfic is on occasion "invite only" please message if you want to
join us.  If an official "inviter" is designated, we will let you know.
Some
of us should be hanging out on #Loiscla.

A note on procedure here ;) : When people need to be caught up on the story
in
progress after being bounced off IRC or just joining the session late,
please
try and avoid pasting the story directly into the channel window.  Please do
that in a private message or dcc-chat window instead.

Well. if anyone needs the pilot episode in PAL format, WB released that in
the stores in Australia for $14.95 so it is about the only episode
available in Australia unless you are prepared to spend mega bucks for the
UK import tapes <g>.... Anyways, hope this helps somebody. BTW, it is the
UK version pilot =)

available are appallingly-badly-cut re-runs put on at 0830 on

While I share absolutely your annoyance and irritation with the Beeb, who
seemed determined to leech every ounce of humour, charm and romance out of
LNC - I have to say you're not entirely correct there, Phil!! The Beeb's
versions aren't the only ones available.

SKY has shown the show almost entirely uncut - all except VD, where (for
some weird reason) there was a reversal of fortunes with SKY cutting out the
romp on the bed and the Beeb showing it! Go figure. Maybe the censors
swapped shifts that week. <g>

Certainly, my copies of the episodes shown on SKY match exactly the episodes
brought out on tape by WB and I've no reason to believe that any serious
cuts were made in later episodes either.

I am almost finished writing a story which has been 'in
progress' for about six months, and I'm appealing for
someone to edit it from a plot/technical detail point of
view before it is submitted to the Archive. Very briefly,
it is a first-season story which takes a 'what-if' look at
Superman's first return from stopping the asteroid in All
Shook Up.

There are three main requirements I should make clear:

1) It is a very long story - about 70 pages in MS Word, so
you're going to have to have patience with long stories!

2) Part of the plot involves Lois becoming pregnant. I have
never been pregnant, so I am looking for a volunteer who
has herself had a baby or whose spouse has - I need to be
sure that any details relating to the course of a normal
pregnancy are accurate.

3) It would be very helpful to me to have a volunteer to
who is able to accept attachments in MS Word, or a
text-file attachment. With a story of this length, breaking
it up into parts to send in the body of emails would be
difficult!

If there is a kind soul out there who thinks that these
requirements are not too onerous, I would be delighted to
hear from you! Please mail me privately.

Its me again.  I have a question.  Does anybody happen to know where the
Superman obsession test is?  I remember seeing it a few weeks ago when I
was on the net around 2 a.m., and I can't remember where it was.  Does
anyone even know what test I am referring to?  I remember the highest
score is a 30 something and i got a 34, meaning that I am 100% obsessed,
I remember that the lowest score said something about running for your
life from the mob of angry FoLC.  Well, a friend wanted to see it, but I
can't find it.

Usually I just hit 'save as' when I want to save something online to disk
and it comes out just fine. This doesn't seem to work with the list. I'm
especially keen to save to disk the fanfic I've missed.

Superman action figure that I have hanging from my rearview mirror. My mom
bought it for me shortly after learning my aunt and uncle were lending me
their extra car as a Christmas gift. Short and sweet, but it does bring me

It's me again.

Ok, does everyone remember that story that I said I have been writing
for 2 years now?  Well, I finally got my computer up and working and so
I put the story on a disk and put it on this computer.  I ran spell
check and, of course, my spelling is absolutely horrible to start with,
so it made sense to me that the computer would tell me that every other
word was spelled wrong.  But, I noticed that I spelled Dr. 'Kline'
several different ways, Kline, Klien, Klein, Clien, Cline, Clein, Claen
(I'm not too sure where I came up with some of them <g>).

So, how is it really spelled?  Were any of my guesses right?  Please,
someone let me know.

Yay!  Another Canadian FoLC!

J=EA=A7s, as far as I know, there aren't any tapes of L&C eps for sale in
Canada and, believe me, I've looked!  I have, however, found tapes of the
Superman movies and the Superman cartoon for sale in some stores recently.
Who knows?  Maybe L&C is next?  I believe that the movie "Best Men" is
coming out on video sometime early next year (someone who knows for sure
can correct me if I'm wrong).  And as for the soundtrack, I ordered it from
a site on the internet at:

The soundtrack is entirely instrumental, but I still love it.  It conjures
up a lot of bittersweet memories for me.  Not to mention that there are
some lovely pictures in the insert! ;)

However this summer's reruns on Sky are missing little bits (which even made
it to the BBC original airings).  However they are still better than the

maybe for some strange reason the US PTB feel that releasing videos of TV
shows would threaten the syndication market?  What would be the point of

stations showing and reshowing series if people could go buy them?  Also
there
is all the copyright factors.  Just a thought so please no one get mad.

I think I've got every version possible, Rowan! <g> The original re-runs

the evening BBC ones, the recent reruns - and a few I begged from FoLCs who
were kind enough to mail me tapes of episodes I'd missed after receiving
begging letters from a complete stranger they'd never met before. FoLCs -
don't ya just love 'em? BTW, do you know that SKY even restored a tiny
missing snippet from TOGOM which was snipped out of the WB version? I'd
always suspected something was missing because the background music track
skips in the middle of the scene. And, lo and behold, there it was on the
SKY repeat. Nothing exciting unfortunately!

Yes - and I had my video all set up ready to go too. Don't quote me, but I
suspect the reason is that SKY doesn't hold the rights to season 4 right

I think "That Guy" chanting is really Jim Carrey.  Also I believe the
reason it is just the instumental songs is because it is the "Lois and
Clark Soundtrack" the songs that only identify LnC the show, the
characters, & the mood, not the songs sung on Lois and Clark.  Although
those songs.. Teri singing, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton are great, I
really appreciate the beauty and talent of Jay Gruska and the songs that
bring bittersweet memories to me too.  Memories of why this show was so
special and why it continues to be.  My husband and I fall asleep every
night listening to 6 or so tracks programed and repeated all night long.
(It aids in the sweet Deans..err.. I mean sweet dreams process hehehe)
It is a beautifully composed soundtrack and any FoLC should have a copy.
Just my 2 cents since I haven't posted in about 2 months UGH!!!

I agree completely.

I think the CD is a much better success than it would've been if they had
used
lyric songs instead of the instrumental ones.  It adds so much more emotion
to
the lives of Lois and Clark.  Adds much more meaning, if you get my drift.
I
think many more people appreciate Jay Gruska's score more than they ever
have
now.

of something I have always been curious about and that is the thread of
alliteration which runs through the Superman story (Lois Lane, Lex Luthor,
Lana Lang, etc.)

Anyone know why this is so? I have a very vague recollection of reading
something years ago about it being an in joke between the creaters of the
characters. Although that could be entirely spurious. My memory has enough
trouble recalling events which happened last week. Ask it to check out
something from years back and it has a tendancy to panic and make it up as
it goes along. <g>

My understanding was that initially it was coincidental, but that later on,
it became an in-joke... so that in the comics, Superman had girlfriends
Lois Lane, Lana Lang, Lyla Ler-Rol (on Krypton when he went back into the
past - she was a movie star, I think), Lori Lemaris (who was a mermaid),
and a cousin, Linda Lee (Supergirl, who, upon adoption became Linda Lee
Danvers, or eventually, just Linda Danvers) - can anyone think of any other
LLs (apart from the more obvious Lex Luthor)?

vague recollection that in the comics, his middle name may be Joseph, but I
could be wrong on that.  At any rate, both names are from Superman's
creators, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.  You may also note that Perry
White's son's name is Jerry, and the implication was that he's using his
middle name - that both mens' names are Perry Jerome White. (Is Perry short
for anything?)

I one heard that Superman was origionally created by a Canadien.. then since
noone read the comic he sold his ideas to someone else??/ Is this true??=20

Not quite. One of the guys who created Superman (I can never recall which
one it was) was born in Canada and lived there for a few years.  Then he
and his family moved to Cleveland, where he met the other creator in
school.  Remember that the "men" who created Superman were only 14-15 when
they did so!  They were involved in fandom in a number of ways, including
writing a story with a "superman" in it years before Kal-El was invented,
although from what I've read that original "superman" was a villain, and
nothing like the final version.
THey did shop around the concept of Superman (as he eventually turned out)
for a while before they found a publisher for the story.  That publisher
eventually became DC Comics.  There are plenty of other history books out
there that could give you more info on this subject, and probably more
accurately than I could!

Hi again,

Since my email yesterday asking for a volunteer to edit a
new fanfiction of mine, I have had several very kind
offers and have decided to accept the two which most
closely matched what I was looking for. To everyone who
offered, or was going to, my sincere thanks - I know it
isn't an easy thing to contemplete editing 70 pages!

And BTW, some people asked how my surgery went: the op
itself was fine and I am more or less up and about. Still
sore, swollen and forbidden to drive or lift too many heavy
items, but... and is this a hint?... I am at my most
comfortable when sitting at the PC...

The Titan Books publication 'Superman, The Wedding and Beyond' - the
omnibus of the set of comics from Lois's return to Metropolis (and Clark)
to the action-packed  honeymoon<wg> (ISBN 1-85286-795-7):  The back cover
is the wedding invitation, not shown in the original DC comic.  The point
of this post is that it shows names as:-

Clark Joseph Kent
Lois Joanne Lane

So I think we can credit the LNCTNAOS writers with 'Jerome'

It was Joe Shuster, a relative of Frank Shuster (of Wayne& Shuster fame).
I can never remember the relationship, they were either cousins or
nephew/uncle.

The Toronto Daily Star says Joe worked for the Daily Star as a newspaper
delivery boy (Frank Shuster says Joe used his experience there as
background material for the Metropolis Daily Planet).

I'm not sure what age Joe would have been when he moved to Cleveland.  I'd
kind of assumed 14 or 15 (old enough to have been a newspaper boy in
Toronto, and then to start a new venture with a friend in Cleveland).
Anyone know for sure?

My favorite is my sterling silver superman ring at bought at the Warner
Brothers Store at a mall in Houston for only $28.  Last week it came off
in my pocket and I thought I had lost it.  My husband took me to the
Mall and bought me another one (I had planned to pay for it myself, but
he insisted).  As soon as I got home I found the other ring by going
through my pockets.  It is a nice shield and does not have any
projections to catch on things.  My problem is that I needed a half size
and it only comes in whole sizes.  Also since it is not Rhodium covered
I have had to live with a silver polishing cloth which I keep in my car
jewelery bag.

I think a lot of Americans are like me, waiting for DVD to settle to one
standard (right now there are two incompatible standards) to buy DVD and
hope to get the episodes on disk (tape being so fragile).  Since TV is
going digital here (by around 2002 according to my cable company by an
act of the Federal Communications System (FCC)) it ought to work well.

Most of these people were paid for acting, not singing.  There may be
legal complications using their voices without compensation.  I know
that every time a song is played on the radio a few cents go to the the
ASCAP or something like that acroynm to be split according to whatever
their deal was.  Maybe they have not been able to come to an agreement.

Have you been to the post office?  They've just put out a Superman
stamp (not too long ago) and there's a number of merchandise items
related to that stamp that the U.S. Postal Service has for sale --
a couple of keychains, a note pad, a set of "cling" designs, and at
least half a dozen other things I'm not remembering at the moment.

I thought it might be possible to order the items online -- the URL for
the post office is:
http://www.usps.gov/
However, when I searched on Superman, I found a couple of articles
about the release of the new stamp (which is part of a pane of 15
stamps about the 1930's -- you can't buy just a sheet of Superman
stamps, unfortunately), and it took a little more digging to find any
ordering information.  From the main page there's a link called
"Store" and from there a link called "Stamps Online".  The direct
link to Stamps Online is:
http://www.stampsonline.com/
You can apparently order the actual stamps from this link (click on
"Purchase Products" to get a phone number, then click on the picture
with the phone number to get an order form), but I'm still not seeing
any place to order the related merchandise.

If anyone would care to search the site more extensively, it's
possible I'm just looking in the wrong place -- let me know what
you find!

In the episode "Church of Metropolis", the song at the end of the show,
"Fly Me To the Moon," does anyone know who sings it?  I know there are A
LOT of singers who have recorded the song (I just searched Music Blvd!!),
but who exactly sung it in that episode?

Also, does anyone know whether there's been any fanfic written that takes
place at the end of this episode?  In other words, starts where what we
see on TV ends?  I found their dancing scene ssssoooooo romantic, that I
would love to read about what might possibly have gone on between the two
of them later that night.

You can buy Superman jewelery, cookie jars, all kinds of things from the
Warner Brothers store.  There are only a few you can walk into, but they
are also available on line.  Which reminds me I, just discovered the
Garfield store in time for my sister's Christmas.  One other thing.  The
Warner Brothers Store has sales if you live close enough to walk in.  I
saved 30% when I bought my second superman ring because a jewelry,
shirt, etc, sale was on.  I bought a Superman T-shirt at the same time,
but unfortunately it wasn't on sale.

I think Anne and Zoomie also mentioned this before, but it does bear
repeating and me too-ing!

*The* most prized gift L&C has given me is introducing me to the kind,
funny, and creative souls who make up folcdom.  I have made some awesome
friends *and* indulged in my DeanDevotion all at the same time.

The greatest thing for me, is the feeling, you know the waffy one, of
knowing there are good people in the world, lots of 'em *and* they have
great taste in TV shows! Hehe.  Seriously, the feeling is the same after an
 ep, a visit on the channel, a yummy fanfic, or reading the day's
mail--it's sweet, it's simple, it's good.

My answer to why Clark's middle name is Jerome is "why is your name
<whatever>?" <g>  Because his parents must have liked it -- it was never
explained otherwise.  But I agree; I was surprised that it wasn't Jonathan.

Jenny, as to your mention that Perry's son was using his middle name --
what makes you infer that?  I don't remember anything from that episode
(Lethal Weapon) that implied that Jerry was a "junior".   I remember that
Perry's middle name was Jerome (which led to all our jokes about it being
the policy of the Daily Planet to only hire men with that middle name <g>)
and his son was Jerry, but I don't remember any more than that.  Can you
refresh my memory?

Yes, many people recorded it, but the version Lois was listening to was
recorded by Dinah Washington.

I have to agree with that 100%.  I have collected hundred of L&C, Superman

As a matter o fact I ended up in the post office the day after I wrote
that post!  My mom was in the car watching my son as I came darting out
of the post office back to the car in search of my wallet!! I'm now the
proud owner of a Superman Keychain, refrigerator magnet, and the cling
designs! YAY!

I loved reading how Jaqueline's husband insisted on taking her to the
mall to get her another Supe's ring right away!! How sweet!  My hubby
surprised me this morning and had put my cling designs of the S shield
and the picture of Clark turning into Superman up on my window in my
office! (we let our son have the one that looks like the stamp for his
room--I have to share!) He also cut out the part that say's Superman
that wasn't ment to be a cling sticker but it's made out of the same
stuff and put that up there too in a very nice arrangement!  Then after
being 'touched' about that all day, I sit down at my computer tonight
and I see that he also cut out the little S sheild and put it in the
bottom right hand corner of my computer screen!  I tell ya, what a
sweetie!

Oh, you meant *things*! <g>  Well, that's pretty easy too -- I had
heard about the L&C posters for ages but couldn't find them.  My
dear friend Nancy up in Seattle sent me the ABC promo poster
(with the steam shot on it) and then later I got the "Have you been
to Metropolis lately" poster through eBay Auctions.  I have them
hanging on the wall by my computer desk :::happy sigh:::

a story because the pregnancy "details" are just plain wrong...  Those of=

to check your local library, see if you can get a copy of "What to Expect=

When You're Expecting"; that covers a lot of detail about when mom feels
kicks, etc.
